CIO / CTO in High and Low Growth Companies is different
Chief Information Officers and Chief Technology Officers have an ever expanding role with the advancements in Artificial Intelligence.
What is a Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO)? These titles were first used inside the information technology department and function to identify the person responsible for all Information Technology functions within the enterprise. In many enterprises, the terms CIO and CTO are still used this way.
Most C-level officers have tenures that are over 5 years in larger enterprises. The tenure for CIOs and CTOs is only between 4 to 5 years - less than it is for other C-level executives.
Generic Roles of CIO and CTO
To succeed today, the CIO needs a very unique skill set. Superb public speaking and leadership skills, well-grounded in technology, an understanding of corporate finance, and a deep understanding of and the ability to directly relate to business operations. With the advancement of AI, the role has more of a value-added dimension.
The role of the CIO and CTO is changing as more enterprises move towards a "Value Added" role for the Information Technology function.
