2025 Mid-Year IT Salary Survey Released

IT Pros working for SMBs on average make $5,000 a year less than those working to Large Enerprises

The 2025 Mid-Year IT Salary Survey by company size and metro area is available for immediate download. Janco has conducted salary surveys of the IT Job market for over 40 years. The data from this survey has been published in the Computer Industry Almanac, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, eWeek, and many other business and industry publications. In addition, over the years, it has been featured on CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and several national and international television and multi-media outlets.

Our observations for the 2025 Mid-Year IT Salary Survey are as follows:

  1. Salary increases have slowed to 0.88% from last June

  2. Many IT organizations have eliminated or automated functions so there is less of a requirement for “entry-level” and “low-skill” level positions.

  3. Total compensation for IT executives in Large Enterprises is 13.0% higher than in Mid-sized enterprises. IT Pros are paid less in SMBs than in Large Enterprises – on average $5,119

  4. Base salaries for all IT Pros increased by 2.35%% - now $100,946.

  5. Median compensation (including bonuses and fringe benefits) for IT Pros in large enterprises is $108,643 with executives' median of $188,294.

  6. Salaries for IT Professionals, in aggregate, rose 0.88% in the past 4 quarters – less than the annualized inflation rate.

  7. With bonuses and fringe benefits, IT Pros fared the best as their total compensation increased by 2.46% in large enterprises and 1.95% in mid-sized enterprises.

  8. Salary compression is occurring as “new hires” are offered salaries at the top end of the pay ranges for existing positions, often paid more than current employees in the same position.

  9. Attrition rates in mid-sized enterprises are rising faster than in large enterprises.

  10. Salary levels in mid-sized enterprises are rising more slowly than in large enterprises, 1.95% versus 2.64%

  11. Demand has remained high for IT professionals supporting artificial Intelligence, security, Blockchain, and e-commerce.

  12. Staffing and retention continue as a primary priority of C-level management.
