85,000 IT Pros were unemployed as of the end of June
The moving average of the number of IT Pros who are unemployed in the US is 70K - Unemployment rate is 3.1% less than the national average of 3.6%
Historically the unemployment rate for IT Professionals and those in the Information field is less than that of the national average as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Janco reviews this data and includes it in its process of forecasting the growth of the IT Job Market.
In the June report from the BLS, the National Unemployment Rate was 3.6% versus 3.1% for IT Professionals. That is with 85,000 reported as unemployed. That along with the fact that in 5 of the first 6 months of 2023, the IT job market shrank. The cumulative loss of IT jobs was 23,000.
