Carnage In the IT Job Market
Have the layoffs flooded the market? Or is AI putting people out of work?
For years the big tech firms had been hiring anyone they could get for all sorts of IT projects. They had a surplus of capital so there were few controls on the firing of staff. Now they have found that the ROI was not there for many of those activities and as AI was rolled out in Google, Facebook, et all those well-qualified IT Pro staffers were let go. That caused a surplus of qualified IT pros with “generic IT skills” to become unemployed. Thus the overall unemployment rate of those individuals grew.
