IT Security Pros command some of the highest salaries
Even with significant increases IT security salaries have not kept up with inflation
Inflation is impacting the prices that everyone pays for everything. IT Pros before the past few years have seen salaries increase faster than inflation. For example, Chief Security Officers (CSO) had wages in 2018 in the range of $139K to $168K. That grew to between $192K and $231K in 2024. Not bad you say. But between 2022 and 2024 the rate of increase was only 0.4% for CSOs and all IT security pros only 5.6%. Both are well below the existing inflation rate. That is at a time when there are too few candidates to fill all the open unfilled positions and cyberattacks are on the rise.
The only positions that have done well are Information Security Engineer and Information Security Analyst.
