IT Unemployment Rate is 5.9% with 147,000 unemployed IT Pros

Janco reports the overall unemployment rate for IT pros in June rose to 5.9%, higher than the 4.1% for the US national unemployment rate. On the bright side, 7,700 jobs were added to the IT job market in May.

The unemployment rate for IT Professionals rose from 4.3% to 5.9% with a trajectory that it will go higher. The number of unemployed IT Pros rose from 129,000 to 147,000. There still is a skills mismatch as positions continue to go unfilled as the available IT Pros do not have the requisite training and experience required. The BLS data shows that around 78,000 IT pros were hired but that 147,000 are looking for work.
